I’m a poor school teacher. I found a working iMac in the trash. It is running Mac OS X 10.5.8. The iMac had an CD disk in it (all gray label with white text) that says that it is an installation disk for Mac OS X 10.6.2. Note: If you have Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) or 10.6 (Snow Leopard), you will need to download OS X El Capitan before you can upgrade to the latest Mac OS. While insecure versions of Firefox will continue to work on OS X 10.8 and earlier, using an up-to-date version of Firefox on a supported version of Mac OS will provide you with the best and safest.

Still works fine in 10.6: defaults write com.apple.finder AllowCutForItems 1 10.6: Move files or folders in Finder (Cut/Paste)
That did not work for me. Changed ~/Library/Preference/com.apple.finder.plist Not the one in System/Library/LaunchAgents Cuts a file, but nothing to paste. 10.6: Move files or folders in Finder (Cut/Paste)
This worked, but I couldn’t paste the cut file anywhere. In fact, it disappeared! I was able to undo in Finder to get it back. Do I need to log out/in? 10.6: Move files or folders in Finder (Cut/Paste)
The file is cut & is promptly dropped in the trash. When I went to paste, the error message that I received said that the file was no longer available or had been moved. Copy & paste does work Cheers ! 10.6: Move files or folders in Finder (Cut/Paste)
I have these scripts assigned to ⌃X and ⌃V in FastScripts:

I don’t know, but my Finder on Mac OS 10.6.8 can copy (cmd+C) and paste (cmd+V). Do I miss something :scratchhead: 10.6: Move files or folders in Finder (Cut/Paste)Cut, not copy. Finder doesn’t do that (at least not with files and folders). 10.6: Move files or folders in Finder (Cut/Paste)
I use FinderPop for this. Control-click, navigate, then move or copy or alias or new folder. 10.6: Move files or folders in Finder (Cut/Paste)I highly recommend TotalFinder for this. The $15 paid version lets you cut and paste files just like in Windows. The file even gets dimmed in the Finder on cut, just like in Windows. 10.6: Move files or folders in Finder (Cut/Paste) 10.6: Move files or folders in Finder (Cut/Paste)
+1 for TotalFinder. Cut/Paste is handy, plus having a tabbed Finder makes it a winner. 10.6: Move files or folders in Finder (Cut/Paste)
Using Finder 10.6.8 I can ’Move Selected Items’ to wherever I ’choose a Destination’ - certainly works for files - perhaps not for folders. 10.6: Move files or folders in Finder (Cut/Paste)

Not sure how/where pjh625 finds what he describes, but... This page describes how to make a service that appears in the Finder contextual items to do this. http://www.macworld.com/article/158686/2011/03/moveselecteditemsscript.html Works well for me. FinderPop still ~slightly~ superior, imho. 10.6: Move files or folders in Finder (Cut/Paste)
Why cut & paste? The Finder uses drag & drop. 10.6: Move files or folders in Finder (Cut/Paste)
Agreed. It’s a misunderstanding of what the Finder is *for* that creates bloat ’hints’ like this. It’s not meant to be a Windows Explorer/Program Loader/Start Menu replacement. You can drag over a disk or folder icon and that destination will open -- keep navigating using the icon to push the destination icon open. When you drop the icon, the destination folders will close successively. Best Browser For Mac 10.6.8
Say, had you wondered about those strange system requirements for Apple’s Final Cut Pro X -- Mac OS X 10.6.8, yet only dot seven was available? Wonder no more. Late today, Apple released the dot 8 update, quite likely the last before OS X 10.7, aka ’Lion’, releases next month.
In fact v10.6.8 is preparation for Lion, which Apple will deliver through Mac App Store -- an add-on to v10.7 Snow Leopard and built into Lion. The update does something to Mac App Store for Lion delivery.
Lion will be available for $29.99 for all personally registered Macs, a significant discount.
Who knows, maybe OS X 10.6.8 will satisfy all people giving the Final Cut Pro X scathing reviews at Mac App Store. There are currently 306 one-star ratings out of 685.
You can get v10.6.8 from Software Update, or download the 1GB file direct from Apple.
Apple offers a list of changes:
*Enhancements to the Mac App Store to get your Mac ready to upgrade to Mac OS X Lion.
*Resolves an issue that may cause Preview to unexpectedly quit.
*Improves support for IPv6.
*Improves VPN reliability.
*Identifes and removes known variants of MacDefender malware.
*Corrects timezone data in iCal for Lisbon-Portugal.
*Adds the ability to use Kerberos authentication to a web proxy server.
*Fixes an issue when saving documents from Xcode or TextEdit when using an NFS home directory.
*Fixes an issue when importing certain media files into Final Cut Pro.
*Includes RAW image compatibility for additional digital cameras.
Mac OS X v10.6.8 also includes fixes provided in the Mac OS X v10.6.7 Snow Leopard Font Update:
*Addresses an issue in which some OpenType fonts don’t display correctly in certain applications.
*Resolves issues printing from Preview.
*Addresses an issue with PDF files not opening in third-party PDF viewing applications.
*Resolves invalid font errors when printing to PostScript printers.Mac 10.6.8 Update DownloadTrash It For Mac 10.6 8th
